We have exceeded our goal of 100 Random Acts of Kindness! Woohoo!!  We will continue to collect acts of kindness through Thursday…thank you for keeping a look out for all of the kindness your child spreads!

Please make sure if you child is doing Valentines that they arrive to school by this Wednesday! :)

This week:

  • Reading: We continue to work on the main idea and details with in a story.  Ask your child what book we read each day and see if they can retell you the main idea and detail!
  • Writing:  We are sharing our published pieces and toasting our great work!  We are also starting our new unit which focuses on letter writing.
  • Math: We will continue the unit Ten-structured Applications.  We are focusing on patterns in numbers on a 10×10 grid.  We will also have a special math day Thursday to celebrate the 100th day of school!!
  • Science: We continue our investigation of the solar system, continuing to focus on the Moon!  We start our first science investigation Monday!
  • Word Wall Words: be, give, made, old, said

  • Thursday we will be having our Friendship Party starting at 1:00 p.m.-feel free to join us!
  • Thursday is Dress Alike/Twin Day
  • No School: Mid-Winter Break is Friday, February 12th-Tuesday, February 16th

Random Acts of Kindness is well underway!  Our window is quite full with red hearts to represent all the great things we do for others!  Please keep sending in those acts of kindness! 

  • Reading: We are beginning to work on the main idea and details with in a story.  We continue to do making word activities and work with words in a variety of ways.
  • Writing:  We are working on publishing this week, focusing on editing and fancying up our best writing piece.
  • Math: We started a new unit this week called Ten-structured Applications.  Look for a family note to come home with more information!
  • Science: We continue our investigation of the solar system, focusing on the Moon this week!  We are almost ready to start our experiments!!
  • Word Wall Words: went, not, best, who, why
  • Art: We created visual interest by overlapping hearts using line for our February Learning Calendars.  We also have a special Art Mentor coming to teach us on Wednesday.
  • Early Release: Friday, February 5th, 12:30 p.m.
  • Report Cards go home February 10th

In an effort to keep you more up-to-date, I will send a weekly happenings! So, here it goes!!

Random Acts of Kindness is well underway!  Our window is beginning to fill with red hearts to represent all the great things we do for others!  Please make sure you read the special kindness homework! 

This week:

  • Reading: We are working on story elements, specifically focusing on how characters, settings, and problems make stories more interesting.
  • Writing:  We are continuing to stretch our small moment stories across several pages of writing in an effort to get more details in our writing.
  • Math: We will be finishing up our unit on “Decade Numbers” this week.  Students played the “Sandwich Game” too!
  • Science: We continue our investigation of the solar system, focusing on the Earth this week!  Last week we focused on the Sun.  We are increasing our knowledge in preparation for upcoming experiments!!
  • Word Wall Words: friend, from, jump, kick, nice
  • Art: Our wonderful art docents will be here teaching us Wednesday
  • Several Mid-year assessments continue this week
  • MAPs Parent Letter - MAPs testing is during our computer lab time Monday
  • No School Friday, January 29th – Teacher Work Day

Make sure to keep sending in your child’s random acts of kindness!  The weekend is always a great time to be “looking” for kindness.  You can share the kindness acts by note or email.  We are well on our way to reaching 100 by February 14th! :)

I hope everyone had a relaxing and productive winter break-I know I did!  A few tidbits:

  • At-Home Learning is resuming as normal this week!

  • January Learning Calendars came home today…our art focused on texture, movement, and shape by creating snowmen!

The first graders have earned all of their jewels after much hard work!  YAY!

 

This Friday, in celebration of their accomplishment, we will be having Pajama Day.  The kiddos can wear their pajamas at school ALL day, and can also bring their favorite stuffed animal to snuggle them.  I will send a reminder home tomorrow!  :)
